@@oficina_moomoo I know, it's not like me to criticise but, well, each to their own
These two cars can not really be compared. It depends on what you will be using it for. There are many things an L322 can do well, that a P38 simply cannot, that said, there are also many things that a P38 can do very well, that an L322 cannot, or will not do very well. The L322 has a unibody design with independent front and rear suspension, so naturally of the two it has the best on road manners and refinement. The P38 has body-on-frame design (the way a proper offroader, and more important, in my opinion, a proper RANGE ROVER, should be), it has live axles front and rear, these facts alone make it a much, much more capable off-road vehicle than any L322. And i am not talking about green laning… I am talking about proper hardcore off-roading, and the P38 is incredibly capable in this department. With a good set of tires, and a properly working air suspension system, a P38 will go anywhere the best and most expensive 4 wheel drive vehicles out there will go. And it will be more comfortable. The L322 is a very nice road car, but then so is most luxury cars out there… It’s just not exceptionally good at anything. Whereas the P38 is.. Even if only in one department..
Great line up of cars. Why someone would choose a modern sports car over buying all 3 is beyond me. I bought a restored 88 Quattro at auction a few yrs back and absolutely love it. So usable, comfy and you just feel amazing when mooching down the road. Every time I drive it people come up and chat, real icon and I think still hugely undervalued when compared to the likes of the E30 and Integrale. Bargain.
Motoring "professionals" of all stripes regularly trash cars for not handling. Surely part of the fun of driving in a willing manner is overcoming a vehicles cornering abilities. Part of my driving education was hurrying a 1958 Morris Oxford Estate. Its virtue was that it would slide in such a lumbering fashion that there was plenty of time for a tyro to rescue it. Most cars are not intended to go fast round corners and off a race track it is probably reckless to try. It is worth looking at standard production racing in the 1970s to see which cars were successful in their (usual capacity) class. New Zealand in particular throws up winners like Vauxhall Victors (2 litre or better, 3.3 litre) and Chrysler Valiants.
Inaccurate
Rover 3.5 PB5 coupe. Fabulous classic
This is about European cars…….hmmm? As a USA driver since 1965, I’m surprised that this video made it to the USA. My opinion of these cars was not much. The early Saabs (1950’s) were cute but not for the USA. The Porches of the 50’s were ok. The rest were at best poor, except the Sunbeam Tigers. The Alpha Romeo’s good for 3 years and then rust heaps. The others that made it here were about as good as the Juno’s. Need I say more? PS: The XKE’s in the 60’s, were cute, but only for the rich, too costly to maintain.
In the 61 years of my clean licence driving experience; I've had an awful lot of 'classic' cars. From Rolls Royces to MG Midgets. My daily driver is an 18 year old Lexus GS300 SE-L which is a truly amazing car; but to be honest, I'd be hard pressed to name the best classic. 3litre Vauxhall Senators have to be in the list. Along with Rover P5b, the saloon, not the coupe. My budget won't run to a Ferrari, but show me a Ferrari that can catch a Nissan R32 GTR Skyline anyway. my last R32 would do in excess of 200mph! I don't think there is such a thing as a 'worst' classic car; simply because owners bring their cars up to the very best they can be. It's just a matter of personal choice. For instance; I'm about to buy a '94 Lincoln Town Car; it's in fabulous condition and with its 4·6 litre Mustang engine it should go rather well too. I doubt any of you would entertain such a car, but it's my choice, and for me, nothing else matters.
Had a Marina. Not rusty! Would've been a good car if they had copied Ford's mechanical ideas. Nuts.
More interesting if you talked about cars under £100,000
Well that was a load of pointless waffle.
Another 3 boring presenters give a bias view in a podcast style video 💩
Another Vauxhall that was a nice car in its day was a 1960's FA model VX/490 .
Fergus Dublin Ireland Brilliant show. Looking forward to next one!
Telling me what I must and mustn't do? Who on earth do they think they are?
5:25 It's a Reliant Regal Vicki. :)
VBH is gold. Agree on Vauxhalls being mostly joyless. Tom, please stop pronouncing coupe as "coop", especially in the context of a Ferrari, you're not American!
The classic Austin Allegro was NEVER "beige" - it was HARVEST GOLD❗
The Mk3 incarnation of the Allegro definitely did come in beige - we had one, and although the BL brochure called it champagne it was resolutely beige! Coincidentally, at the same time we had a harvest gold Maxi, which was a relatively rich shade of mustard!
The original price, or status, of a car from over 30 years ago is completely irrelevant. THEY ALL RUSTED AWAY no matter whom the manufacturer was.
Re. The cost of the cars mentioned: you don’t need to spend hugely to have fun. My $2,500 daily driver Karmann Ghia is 53 years old and doesn’t handle very well, or go very fast, but is just so charming and fun. Gets better reactions than the expensive stuff in my experience…It’s a 356 on the cheap (at least that’s what I tell myself). It’s nice, but not pristine, so I don’t worry about parking it and bits are readily available for same prices. Wish I’d known years ago that you don’t need an expensive vehicle to get such enjoyment!
It’s the overall enjoyment of the vehicle and balance of it’s qualities- handling is important in my newer vehicles - Maserati and Porsche, but I equally enjoy pootling about in my old Karman Ghia or ‘63 Corvette these days and would love an SM for its combination of comfort and design…
Hydraulic Citroens got a bad name but we’re no worse than anything else for rust and the hydraulics were great. Just fix the rust and treat the internal cavities.
Each to their own. We all have different tastes and desires. Clearly the presenters opinions will never match with everyone’s, but I’m not sure it’s worth putting these presenters opinions out there at all.
Snobs ........
And they slag British cars of the 70s off. Never driven or owned a french or talian car from the 70s ???? Clichéd shit this
Doesn’t she look old now ?!
Possibly the worst, certainly the most disappointing for me was the Mercedes 300SL Gullwing.
Think the Daytona we had once would rival it for awfulness. Despite its reputation, the thing drove like a cumbersome bus !
Italian electrics, its lump of pasta.
Thank you all for your comments!
Only Fools’ Van was a Regal not a Robin! Had enough of experts.
I noticed that, too! Regal Supervan III ….
Ouch! Motoring Faux Pas - It was a Reliant Regal in OFAH .
Bit of a posh love in for me
Astons are overpriced for the name and a Mercedes with an Aston body, Mk2 3.8 the best Jag of that era
Retirement cars
The P38 doesn’t have a BMW V8 4.6 - still the original GM base aluminium engine. I have a 2002 Borrego yellow one
SORRY, I just cannot watch her but... good luck!!
The "Austin" Marina was massively popular in Canada
Great vid 👏🏼
The problem with you all is that you’re fixated at Histoirics in a snobbish way by such a few bijoux marks, such as Porsche/Aston/Mercedes etc. It’s maybe a result of you only thinking what will sell? There’s no real consideration of the merits or otherwise of classic cars. And that jokey approach to the subject “really” grates. Sorry guys,.
Please give us some Marks to discuss as we'll include them where possible!
@@HistoricsAuctions Dear God, they're a boring bunch. Next...
@@HistoricsAuctions OK… if we take then Farnborough auction, for a start there was that Beacham Jaguar. Then the Mustang Mach 1 wasn’t that bad, it had potential, the Facel Vega was gorgeous, the VW bus was stunning, and that sweetheart Caravelle (got to declare an interest, it was mine) is just so iconic and of its time. Rant over.
@@jeremyfdavies This is brilliant feedback Jeremy, thank you ever so much! We did feature the Facel Vega on the Historics Instagram account if it's of interest to you. All the best!
@@HistoricsAuctions It would also be quite nice to see some of the cars they are talking about. Its visually a little dull just watching the three of them chatting away.
She looks battered can't believe she's still talking rubbish give up luv no body cares.
Good analysis of some questionable vehicle's, agree Vauxhall range never felt like a 'drivers car' Corsa SRI, Astra GTE, Cavalier SRI etc unless passed to Lotus. The Carlton/Senator ranges were their best. Back in 60s/70s there was a heavy American influence (Cresta etc) perhaps there was an American approach to handling!
Nothing wrong with a 16V GTE Astra & another red top the Cavalier GSi 2000 which I owned both in my 20s , I loved them both particularly the GSi 2000.
Great pod shame about our knowledge of the alphabet 😂
Seem to remember Vicki borrowed a Suzuki vitara off me in Barbados once!
TP-3000 ... yes, and we noisily christened the back seat ... 🙃 ...
@@oscarwilde5473 no, she was dating a family friend at the time
@@TP-3000 ... I remember ... 🫠 ...
VBH has the best smile and laugh, didn’t really listen to the chaps 🤣
I loved my Vauxhall Calibrate,I loved it until it rained and I tried to turn either way above 17mph. Frustrating for a 19 yo who need to travel at 98mph at all times!!
Worse classic exotics - every Maserati / Ferrari / Lambo to 2012. Especially GranTurismo & 360.
Entertaining. Love Vicki and a simple amusing quiz to round off.
Viva HC
Great show as always 😃
Vicki's dirty shoes??
VBH luvvy , it’s an age thing but I don’t want to go sideways round a corner it want to waft in sheer comfort I.e. Citroen DS 23 efi .
Yes! And in France when their roads were bad they could fly too and they were supremely comfortable…
